If your tow vehicle has a maximum towing capacity of around 2.5 tonnes, you might think you're going to have to compromise on comfort.
Maybe you'll have to give up having a proper separate shower and toilet... or settle for a much smaller caravan than you'd really like.
But after searching through more than 3,700 caravans in the Australian RV Directory , I discovered there are actually 93 caravans with an ATM of 2500kg or less that also have a separate shower and toilet.
So in this video I'm going to show you ten very different examples from a range of manufacturers.
And at the end I'll also share a few interesting things I noticed while doing this search.
FILTERS
To create this list I filtered the spreadsheet to show caravans with:
an ATM of 2500kg or less
a separate shower and toilet
I then picked ten examples that show the variety available.
Let's get started.
Swift Sprite Alpine 2
If keeping the weight as low as possible is your priority, this first caravan is hard to ignore.
The Swift Sprite Alpine 2 has the lightest ATM on today's list at just 1250kg.
It's a European-built caravan measuring 6.05m long, and instead of having a permanent bed, the front lounge converts into either two single beds or one large double.
Now, that does mean making the bed up each day if you want the double, but it's also what allows Swift to fit in a surprisingly generous separate shower and toilet while keeping the overall weight incredibly low.
So if your tow vehicle has a limited towing capacity, this is definitely one worth considering.

Tare: 1042kg
ATM: 1250
Total Length: 6.05m

Silversun Caravans Pluto
At the opposite end of the size spectrum is the Australian-made Silversun Pluto.
At just 5.1 m, it's the shortest caravan in this list, yet it still manages to include a separate shower and toilet.
One thing I really like is the flexibility of the layout.
You can convert the dining area into an east-west queen bed each night, or leave a permanent single bed set up and still have a small dining area beside it.
Personally, I think that's a really practical layout for someone travelling solo.
The bathroom is definitely compact. There doesn't appear to be much room to stand outside the shower to dry yourself, but because the shower is separate from the toilet, you're not turning the whole bathroom into a wet room every time you shower.

Tare: 1000kg
ATM: 1600kg
Total Length: 5.1m
Price from: $48,990

Stoney Creek Campers Somerset-15
Next up is the Stoney Creek Somerset 15.
This caravan has what I'd call a fairly conventional layout.
The bed is up the front, the kitchen and L-shaped dinette are in the middle, and the separate shower and toilet are at the rear.
It has a tare of 1780kg, an ATM of 2300kg, and prices start from around $63,990.
The compromise here is the east-west bed.
If you're travelling as a couple, one of you is going to have to climb over the other if you need to get up during the night.
On the plus side, it also includes an external slide-out kitchen, giving you another cooking option when you're set up at camp.

XTour Caravans Evoke (Couple)
If you're looking for something capable of heading off the beaten track, the XTour Evoke is worth a look.
It's one of the 17 off-road or semi-off-road caravans I found that fit our search criteria.
It's also the longest caravan in today's video at almost 7.8 metres.
It includes features like an island queen bed, a washing machine and, perhaps most impressively, a huge 274L fridge, which is the largest fridge of any caravan on today's list.
One thing I couldn't find was the tare weight.
The ATM is listed as between 2400 - 2500kg, depending on the configuration, so if you're considering this one I'd definitely want to understand the payload before making any decisions.
There is also a family version with bunks available, although adding the bunks changes the layout to an east-west main bed and reduces the size of the bathroom.

ATM: 2400 - 2500kg
Total Length: 7.821m
Price from: $94,900

Traveller Caravans Cruise - 15ft East/West
The Traveller Cruise 15-foot East/West caught my attention because of its dining area.
Instead of the usual café seating, it uses a bench seat with two small adjustable tables.
That means two people can comfortably sit side by side while each having their own table, which I thought was quite a clever way of making the most of a compact space.
It's Australian made, measures 6.95m, has an ATM of 2415kg, and prices start from around $64,990.
Like a few others on today's list, it uses an east-west bed to help fit everything into the available space.
It also comes with a generous 200-litre fridge, making it well suited to longer trips.

EzyTrail Campers Airlie 14 Twin
Next is the EzyTrail Airlie 14 Twin.
This is another off-road model and, although it's only the third shortest caravan on today's list at 6.365 metres, it still manages to fit in quite a lot.
To achieve that, it uses an east-west queen bed, which frees up valuable living space elsewhere in the caravan.
If overall length is important to you, that may be a compromise worth making.
It has a tare of 1970kg, an ATM of 2500kg, and prices start at $64,990.
Other features include an under-bench fridge and an optional external slide-out kitchen.

Dreamhaven Caravans Tourline 15 Series
The Australian-made Dreamhaven Tourline 15 Series is a nice example of how much you can fit into a caravan while still staying within the 2500kg ATM limit.
It has an island queen bed, a separate shower and toilet, and even includes a washing machine as standard.
With a tare of 1902kg, an ATM of 2500kg, and a starting price of around $70,290, it offers a layout that I think will appeal to couples wanting something that feels a little more traditional without pushing into a heavier weight category.

Snowy River Caravans SRP-17
I actually changed my list to include this caravan because I realised I hadn't shown a single pop-top.
The Snowy River SRP-17 is the only pop-top in today's video.
In fact, when I ran this search, only 13 of the 93 caravans were pop-tops, so they're much less common than full-height caravans in this weight range.
This one has an island queen bed, an ATM of 2500kg, a tare of 1947kg, and prices currently start from around $60,000.
So if you've been specifically looking for a pop-top with a separate shower and toilet, this could be one to investigate further.

Windsor Caravans Genesis 176RD
The Windsor Genesis 176RD is another Australian-designed and built caravan.
Like the Dreamhaven, it offers an island queen bed and includes a washing machine, showing that you don't necessarily have to move into a much heavier caravan to get some extra creature comforts.
It measures 6.775 metres, has a tare of 1920kg, an ATM of 2500kg, and prices start from around $74,990.

Blue Sky Caravans Tarango
The final caravan on today's list is the Blue Sky Tarango.
What makes this one stand out is that it's the only tandem axle caravan I chose.
Although there are 17 tandem axle models that meet these search criteria, the majority are still single axle caravans.
The Tarango is Australian made and includes an island queen bed and a washing machine.
Blue Sky doesn't currently list pricing on its website, but I did find a 2026 off-road version advertised for around $64,990, so I'd expect the touring version to come in somewhere below that.

Tare: 1992kg
ATM: 2500kg
Body Length: 5.94m
https://www.blueskycaravans.com.au/Model-Details/10
Whenever I put together these lists, I usually notice a few patterns while I'm searching.
This time, the biggest surprise was simply how many caravans met the criteria.
There were 93 caravans with an ATM of 2500kg or less that also had a separate shower and toilet.
Now, that doesn't include caravans where the manufacturer hasn't published an ATM figure, so there could actually be a few more than that.
Another thing that surprised me was how few pop-tops there were.
Only 13 of the 93 were pop-tops, and they came from just three manufacturers: Avan, Golf and Snowy River.
I also found 17 off-road or semi-off-road models, so if you enjoy getting away from sealed roads, you still have plenty of options under this weight limit.
Likewise, only 17 were tandem axle, with the vast majority being single axle caravans.
And finally, every caravan that met these criteria was priced under $100,000, which I thought was another interesting result.
If you're trying to match a caravan to your tow vehicle, this is exactly the sort of search the Australian RV Directory spreadsheet was built for.
