Are you considering whether you should invest in a motorhome?
Or maybe you've already decided that a motorhome is the right choice, but you're just not sure about what which one would be right for you?
There are 3 main types of motorhomes that are available here in Australia. From smallest to largest:
Campervans - these are cargo or delivery vans that are converted into campers. Ranging in size from a Toyota Hiace through to an Iveco Daily, and they all have the sliding side door.
Motorhomes - this is a large category emcompassing Class C (with the sleeping or storage space over the cab) and mini-bus sizes.
Coaches & specialty vehicles - these are also called motorhomes, but I've seperated them out into their own category as they are not as common. This category includes the large motorhomes that have been converted or built on a bus/coach chassis, and the larger all-terrain vehicles.

In this article we're going to have a look at some of the most popular motorhomes available here in Australia.
Just a note about prices - I've included prices where possible, either from the manufacturers website or from online ads. These are indicative only.
I encourage you to click through to the manufacturers website to see their full range and specifications.
We're starting off with a bang!
At 9.85m (32ft) the Longreach is the longest motorhome in the Avida range, and it's probably one of the larger motorhomes that you will find around Australia.
But there is certainly a lot that is packed into this motorhome!

The two slide-outs on this rig make an already large motorhome into an even more spacious home on wheels.
Due to the size/weight of this motorhome, you will need a Medium Rigid (MR) drivers licence to drive it.
You may be more familiar with Avan for their folding campers with their distinctive a-frame shape (once folded out), but they also have a range of motorhomes and campervans.
The model shown below is the Avan Ovation M10 B Class

Single beds seem to be a bit rare in motorhomes, so it's nice to see this option by Avan. (They also have single beds in their M6 & M9 layouts, and the C Class motorhomes have the added benefit of a bed above the cab.)

The Explorer Motorhomes Discovery is their flagship product and it boasts lots of great features. The standout is the 6WD capabilities of this diminutive motorhome, and the inside is packed with a clever layout and stylish finishes.

The two layout options work really well for either a family to fit comfortably, or a couple to spread out with more room.

I'm sure you've heard of Jayco. They're the biggest RV manufacturer in Australia and have a large range of caravans.
Buy they also produce motorhomes and campervans.
The Conquest model can be built on a variety of chassis' (Mercedes Sprinter, Fiat Ducato, Renault Master or Iveco Daily) with various layouts.
Below is the smallest one built on the Renault Master. It looks like a great option for couples with the drop down bed taking the hassle out of having to convert your dining area to a bed every night.

The club lounge dining area in the rear of this motorhome would make a wonderful spot to relax, eat or entertain. With large windows on 3 sides you'll be able to maximise the views.
That prime area is then converted to the bedroom at night, with the bed lowering down from the ceiling with just the flick of a switch.

There are 3 layouts of the Navian, one of which includes a garge section (about as big as the bathroom in the layout above).
The bed above the cab on the Windsor Simpson really adds versatility to this motorhome. It can be a bed for kids if you're a family, a guest bed for occassional visitors, or used for storage.
Built on the Fiat Ducato, the slide out ensures there room to get around the bed to the bathroom.

Winnebago Australia (no affiliation with the USA Winnebago) motorhomes and campervans are built by Apollo.
The Bondi 2S campervan is on the Mercedes Sprinter chassis, and makes a perfect small camper for a couple.
It's small enough to park in a normal carpark, but big enough to have a permanent double bed in the back.

The Bondi comes in 2 variations - the 2S with a fixed bed, and the 4S which has belted seats for 4 people and a rear dining area that converts to sleeping for 2.
