11 Lightweight Couples Caravans with a Bathroom

If you want a caravan that's easy to tow, fits in your garage, or simply doesn't require a huge tow vehicle... this post is for you.

I searched through more than 3,500 new caravans available in Australia, looking for a couple of specific things...

The lightest caravans designed for two people that also have a built-in toilet and shower.

Some of these weigh under 700 kgs.

Others are so small you'll probably wonder how they managed to fit a bathroom inside.

Let's see what I found.

The Australian RV Directory lets you filter and compare thousands of caravans and motorhomes using relevant specifications like tare weight, ATM, length, berths, bathroom types and much more.

For this search I filtered for caravans that:

  • are designed for two people

  • include a toilet and shower

  • and then sorted everything by ATM.

One thing to mention first...

Every caravan in this post is an on-road model, and several are European designs. As always, think about how and where you plan to travel before considering whether one of these would suit you.

Let's jump into the lightest caravan I could find..

Contents

Euro Caravans Glider

Coming in at just 640 kgs tare, the Euro Caravans Glider is currently the lightest caravan with a built-in bathroom that I could find in Australia.

It's only 4m long, making it incredibly compact.

To keep the weight down, the dining area converts into your double bed each night, and the roof only pops up through the middle section of the van where you actually need standing room.

It's definitely different from a traditional caravan, but if keeping your tow weight as low as possible is your number one priority, this is hard to beat.

Prices currently start from around $39,800.

Carpento Caravans 310

Next is the Carpento 310, weighing around 720 kgs.

Like the Glider, this is another European-built caravan imported by Carlight Caravans.

Unlike the Glider though, it's full height, so there's no pop-top roof.

The seating converts into your bed, and one feature that really stands out is the huge panoramic front windows, which make the interior feel much larger than you'd expect from a caravan that's only 4.4m long.

Pricing starts from around $49,900.

Swift Sprite Alpine 2

Also sitting at 720kg tare is the Swift Sprite Alpine 2.

Again, this is a European caravan, but the layout is quite clever.

Instead of one large bed, the front seating can become either two single beds or one double bed, giving you a little more flexibility.

Another nice surprise is the bathroom.

Rather than having the shower over the toilet like many small caravans, this one actually has a separate shower and toilet, which is something you don't often see in a caravan this size.

Adria Action 361LT

Stepping up to 1,000kg tare, we have the very distinctive Adria Action 361LT.

If you've ever seen one of these on the road, you'll probably recognise its curved shape straight away.

Inside you'll find another convertible seating area that becomes either twin singles or a double bed, plus a combined shower and toilet.

One of the standout features is the huge panoramic roof window over the lounge, which really opens up the space and brings in plenty of natural light.

Silversun Caravans Pluto

Also weighing 1,000kg is the Silversun Pluto.

Unlike several of the earlier caravans, this layout gives you a bit more flexibility.

The dining area converts into a double bed, but if you're travelling solo, you can opt for the layout that has a permanent single bed plus a small dining space.

It's just over 5m long, so you gain a little extra living space without adding too much weight.

Prices currently start from around $48,990.

Three remarkably similar caravans...

Now I came across something interesting during this search.

Three different brands offer caravans that appear remarkably similar.

There's the Fantasy Echo 10, the Century Venus 11, and the X Series RV Element 10.0.

All are compact, full-height caravans with very similar layouts, similar dimensions and similar weights.

Whether they share the same base design is something you'll have to investigate yourself, but if you're shopping in this size and weight category, it's definitely worth comparing all three before making a decision.

EzyTrail Campers Winton 10 MK2

Just a little heavier again is the EzyTrail Winton 10 MK2, weighing 1,185kg tare.

Like several others, the seating converts into your bed.

One feature that helps it stand out though is the optional external slide-out kitchen, giving you another cooking space outside when the weather is nice.

With pricing from around $35,990, it sits in a similar price bracket to the previous group.

TrackStar Campers Starliner

If constantly making your bed doesn't appeal to you, the TrackStar Starliner offers something different.

At 1,200kg tare, it has a fixed bed at one end, a dinette at the other, and the kitchen plus combined bathroom positioned in the middle.

It also has a distinctive retro-inspired look that gives it a bit more personality than many of the boxier compact caravans.

The pop-top roof helps keep the weight down while still providing a surprisingly spacious interior.

Avan Aspire 499 Double Pop top

Finally, we have the Avan Aspire 499 Double.

At around 1,400kg tare, it's the heaviest caravan in today's list - but still remarkably light considering what you're getting.

Unlike many of the earlier vans, this one includes a fixed corner queen bed, meaning no converting the dining area every evening.

The Aspire range also includes several lightweight layouts, so if this particular floorplan isn't quite right, it's worth exploring the rest of the range as well.

Avan Aspire 499 Double Pop top

Those are the lightest couples caravans with a built-in bathroom that I could find after searching through more than 3,500 new caravans available in Australia.

What I found interesting is just how many different approaches manufacturers have taken to keeping the weight down. Some rely on convertible beds, some use pop-top roofs, while others simply focus on making every centimetre count.

If you'd like to do your own searches - whether you're looking for lightweight caravans, bunk beds, ensuite bathrooms, off-road models or hundreds of other combinations - you can explore them all using the Australian RV Directory.
